I can understand completely about the effects of cancer. I went through this experience with my father. He was a construction worker and acquired cancer from breathing in the asbestos in the air while on his jobs. He was never one for going to the doctor so by the time he was diagnosed, the doctors had only given him 6 months to live. He lived for a year and a half. It was a very emotional time and I remember how it was to see this big strong Trinidadian man, whom I adored, literally waste away before my eyes; Someone who was always so independent and full of life deteriorate to the point to where he couldn’t even feed himself. Coming from a family with 14 children, it was hard on everyone because he was the backbone of us all. That’s why even though I didn’t get a chance to officially meet Cyn (yet J), when I read about her, it always makes me cry because all of those memories come back as if it just happened yesterday. No one knows how devastating this disease can be until they experience or witness it first hand. Although I wish I could have had more time with him, I thank God for the time I was given. I will never forget him. I just pray that they are able to find a cure one day. R.I.P. Archie E.Gibbs

I developed Cervical Cancer cells at age 17 in which I had to have an freeze type operation on my uterus to get the cancer cells removed' because if they hadn't caught it in time I would have been dead by age 25. Thats why I make sure to support the cause.. I strongly suggest every female to have regular checkups and Dr visits' get that pap smear to make sure everything is alright with your body' don;t wait til its too late...

I have watched people in my family and friends struggle with cancer. My oldest son's father's side of the family almost everyone has had a bout with cancer and survived of has passed away.  The last uncle to have found out that he had cancer couldn't take the news and didn't want to go through it and left the doctor's office and went home into the game room and shot himself in the head.  I cry and pray for my son that this is something that may not touch him, but we all understand "odds".  I have been away due to illness myself and I return to Cyn, a woman that I have not had the pleasure of meeting, but while reading the dedications was crying hard.  " Cancer", has become my biggest fear and I know that I shouldn't fear anything because thru God all things are possible, but also remember that God needs his angels to help protect us.....no matter if we like it or not.  Our lives we take for granted, but something that Cyn, is touching us with is wisdom, love and strength.

I've lost two grandparents to Cancer.  And a few other family members.  But the closest I've come was when my oldest child was not yet one, my mother was diagnosed with skin cancer on top of her head.  She had to have it cut out   By the time they were done it was the size of a softball.  But I'm happy to say she so far is cancer free ( the woman wont go in for her female checkups).  This saddens me because once Cancer shows up and you think you've gotten rid of it, it shows up elsewhere.  I truly believe she's just scared and that's why she wont go.  Shes sooo stubborn.  So I'm blessed to have her around and would love to know she is completely cancer free.  Anyways that's my dealings with Cancer.

Wow...this has been a very touchy subject for me.
It has taken me a while to be able to talk and share my story. But God is good and the many friends that I have made thru these months have made me stronger.

I am a 3x Carvical Cancer victim.....
I survived it twice and I am now going thru chemo a third time. I was first diagnosed at the age of 15, when Docs told me that I would never be able to concieve. But My God is greater than any doctor. During my 1st remission, I was blessed with my first born, Jorge now 18 yrs old, shortly after my 2nd son was born Jiovanni now 17 yrs old. Soon after Jiovanni was born at the age of 23 I was re-diagnosed with cervical cancer and battled it for 5 years and survived. I was in remission for almost 13 years, I have been re-diagnosed again in August 2010 with Cervical Cancer......But again I say my God is powerful and He will see me thru another and final remission......Thank you for listening....God bless

I watched as my mom slowly got worse from her cancer. She had Melanoma Skin Cancer and despite finding about it in 2000 we though after the surgery and dealing with the Cancer Center that things would get better. But the way the world is and economy, you don't have the right health insurance you can still be paying out the ass for just regular doctor visits and MRI's.The cost became too much and she stop going to the Cancer Center.Everything seemed fine until my mother got a lump in the back of her leg.I noticed it January of 2006 and it became worse over time.Started to bleed and grow bigger. She eventually went to the doctor in May and that when we found out the Cancer was back and spreading rapidly. The best option was to cut off her leg but we just couldn't do it.She went for Chemotherapy for months and things still got worse.Eventually radiation and she was only to live a few months after that. The sore kept getting bigger and her body became weak.

She did make it to next year May and we all came together for Mother's Day.We were hoping still that she would be with us longer.

She eventually passed away on Father's Day.That was the worst day of my life.My mom said to me a 2 weeks before crying that she was going to die and that hurt me so bad to hear that. She eventually stop speaking right before she passed.I miss my mom so much.I hate Cancer and on a flip side might have Testicular Cancer myself but I have to see a doctor first.I have no insurance so I hope I get through.I'm hoping its something less severe.Wish me luck.

Dre, let's hope that is not the case. Don't even want speak that into existence. Either way, if there are some symptoms that make you think that could be issue, then hurry and find out instead of putting it off. Catch it early cause in the next 40 yrs, we wanna talk to you and with you, not about you...

I actually lost a friend to cancer. It's been about 18 years already. The I found out another friends mom was diagnosed and survived Breast cancer a few years ago. I think about my close friend a lot and it never ceases to amaze me how short life can be and that it can't be taken for granted

Cancer is a very deep life changing disease and no matter if you suffer from it directly or indirectly everyone will eventually feel the effects of cancer. I have lost several people I love to the battle and it never hurts any less anytime you go through it. I also have to check myself periodically because I've had several chances scares since I was 12. And now at age 33 I have to get a mammogram every year which is no cupcake. So yes the effects of cancer are monumental and it will change your life.

My father died of lung cancer. He was only 52. He'd smoked cigarettes from 12 years old. My sister I was young when I happened like still in elementary school. My mother was never the same. Our child hood was tragic because of this. Now all I can do is make the best choices for myself so I can be here for my child.

I lost my Mom 2 years ago. She first contracted cervical cancer. She had this removed but they later found that it spread to her bowls. She had chemo but the tumor ruptured her bowl and she died from the resulting infection. I also lost an Aunt, Uncle, Grandma and Grandpa.
After doing a DNA test doctors found that me and the rest of my family are genetical predisposed to multiple forms of cancer. This just means that I'll have to be vigilant with my doctor and make sure that when it happens its caught early and it can be dealt with.
