1. TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING ON SPIKE TV

Total Nonstop Action Impact Wrestling has been taken by storm since the arrival of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff in October of 2009. Some fans have been overjoyed, some fans, not so much. But there is no doubt that the Hulk Hogan/Eric Bischoff regime has totally changed the landscape of TNA Impact Wrestling, for better or worse.

TNA's current roster and overall program reminds many longtime wrestling fans of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), which was owned by Ted Turner and managed by Eric Bischoff, who was the mastermind behind the rise of WCW during the 1990s. Many fans remember the legendary "Monday Night War" between Ted Turner/Eric Bischoff's WCW and Vincent K. McMahon's World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). While WWE was relying heavily on new, younger stars such as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, "The Rock" Rocky Maivia, The Undertaker, Kane, Triple H: Hunter Hearst Helmsley, and Chris Jericho, WCW mainly relied on former WWE stars such as "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, and many others.

WCW was eventually purchased and shut down by Vince McMahon and WWE in 2001. Many fans longed for an alternative to WWE, preferably with some big-name stars. However most of the big-name stars from the 1980s and 1990s either signed with WWE or went into retirement or semi-retirement. Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan both ended up signing with WWE as well.

Hulk Hogan left WWE in 2003, but continued to make sporadic appearances until 2007. Eric Bischoff was a full-time WWE employee from 2002 until 2006. As soon as Eric Bischoff left WWE, wrestling fans on the Internet were begging him to either go to TNA or start his own new wrestling promotion with Hulk Hogan. Everybody wanted to see Hogan and Bischoff make a comeback.

Fast forward to 2009, although a few years late, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff finally gave the wrestling fans what they had wanted since 2001. Hogan and Bischoff decided to once again compete against WWE, via TNA Impact Wrestling on Spike TV, which had been in negotiations with Hulk Hogan since his WWE departure in 2003.

However, some fans were not pleased. People were begging Hulk Hogan to join TNA all throughout 2003 and 2004. People begged Eric Bischoff to join TNA ever since he left WWE in 2006. Now that the fans have gotten what they were asking for, why are they still not happy?

The arrival of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff has forced every single TNA employee to step up their game, from the wrestlers, to the referees, to the commentators and ring announcers, to the cameramen and production crew. TNA was an amazing wrestling promotion from its inception in 2002 until late 2006/early 2007. But all throughout 2007, TNA's weekly programming was stale, uninspired, and sometimes downright outlandish. It became less about pure wrestling and more about "juicy" storylines involving stars such as Sting, "The Monster" Abyss, Kurt Angle, Karen Angle, Christian Cage, Travis Tomko, A.J. Styles, and others. The storylines were poorly written, and combined with the overall lack of acting skills on the TNA roster, the program seemed amateur at best.

Most of 2008 was basically a recovery period from 2007. TNA's only real attractions in 2008 were the TNA Knockout female competitors and the Main Event Mafia (M.E.M.) stable which originally consisted of Kurt Angle, "The Icon" Sting, Booker T, Kevin Nash, and Scott Steiner, and later also included Samoa Joe, Taz, and the original TNA Knockout female, Traci Brooks. The Main Event Mafia dominated TNA for exactly one year, from October of 2008 until October of 2009 when the stable disbanded once and for all.

2009 was not the best of years for TNA either. 2008 and 2009 both seemed to be recovery periods after 2007, which was arguably the worst year in the history of TNA, WWE, and pro wrestling as a whole. But in October of 2009, TNA shocked the world when they announced the signing of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff. Hogan and Bischoff promised to turn TNA into a television monster that would rival WWE in the weekly ratings. So what have they done so far?

2. THE IMPACT OF THE HOGAN/BISCHOFF ERA SO FAR

Under the Hogan/Bischoff era, many big-name stars have joined or rejoined the TNA roster, including: Mr. Ken Anderson (formerly known as "Mr. Ken Kennedy" in WWE), Matt & Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Mickie James, Ric Flair, and Scott Steiner. The TNA originals such as A.J. Styles, Frankie Kazarian, Bobby Roode, "Cowboy" James Storm, and Christopher Daniels have been put in the spotlight in a storyline war against the Hogan/Bischoff "Immortal" stable. And TNA's X-Division is currently in the process of being rejuvenated, as it was nearly forgotten from 2007-2009, before Hogan and Bischoff joined the roster.

At the end of the day, TNA is trying its best to put on a satisfying product for their fans. But the fans just cannot seem to be pleased. TNA tried to rely on the X-Division and TNA originals from 2002-2005, but their ratings remained fairly low. Ever since 2005, TNA has brought in a plethora of stars such as Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, Sting, Mick Foley, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, Team 3D (Ray & Devon), Christian Cage, Travis Tomko, Rob Van Dam, Mr. Ken Anderson, Bobby Lashley, Mickie James, Lisa Marie Varon ("Victoria" in WWE, "Tara" in TNA), The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobs & Jerry Sags), Jimmy Hart, The Wolfpack (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Sean "Syxx-Pac" Waltman), and the team of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff.

Yet TNA's ratings remain under a 1.3, compared to WWE's "Monday Night Raw", which averages about a 3.0, give or take.

3. PRO WRESTLING'S FANBASE

Pro wrestling nowadays has nowhere near the truly loyal and hardcore fanbase that it once had. The majority of people who watch wrestling at all will only watch it if it's WWE "Monday Night Raw" and only if it has John Cena. If it's not "Raw" and if Cena isn't on the television screen, most people simply do not care to watch pro wrestling. People do not watch WWE "SmackDown", they didn't watch WWE "Superstars" on WGN America, they didn't watch WWE's Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) on Syfy, they didn't watch WWE "NXT" on Syfy, and they refuse to watch Total Nonstop Action Wrestling on Spike TV.

Many people have also never heard of independent/international wrestling promotions such as Ring of Honor (ROH), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and the thousands of other wrestling promotions all over the planet. People have the mentality that wrestling is only worth watching if it's John Cena on WWE "Monday Night Raw". Other than that, the majority of people do not care and will not watch any other pro wrestling. Those people are mindless sheep.

To those people out there who only choose to watch "Monday Night Raw" with John Cena, STOP WATCHING WRESTLING ALTOGETHER. You're uneducated about the sport and you really are quite pathetic compared to die-hard wrestling fans who actually follow the sport all over the world. There are plenty of other good Superstars on the WWE roster who could entertain you, but you choose not to watch them. There are plenty of other pro wrestlers all over the world who could entertain you, but you choose not to give them a chance.

NOT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM JOHN CENA. John Cena loves WWE and is extremely passionate about what he does. But the idiotic marks (look it up if you don't know what it means) out there who will only watch wrestling if it has John Cena on the screen are really very narrow-minded.

And to those die-hard wrestling fans out there who follow wrestling all over the world and actually KNOW what's going on, stop complaining about the Hulk Hogan/Eric Bischoff era in TNA. They are trying to do the best they can to put on a good program. They have made mistakes and they will make mistakes in the future, but many of you out there begged Hogan and Bischoff to come back, and now they have.

4. WRESTLING IN THE FUTURE

If you are going to watch pro wrestling at all, watch a full program. Whether it's WWE "Monday Night Raw" on the USA Network, WWE "Friday Night SmackDown" on Syfy, or TNA Impact Wrestling on Spike TV. If you see a wrestler on television and don't know who they are, LOOK THEM UP. Educate yourself on the wrestling business. You'd be surprised at what you can learn from it.

Pro wrestling's viewership is facing some stiff competition from other sports and television shows. Wrestling's ratings aren't what they used to be. WWE seems to be entering new era, which is like a mixture of the PG Era of today and the Attitude Era of the 1990s. WWE programming is getting much more interesting, yet the ratings really aren't rising much. And TNA is like a flashback of years gone by. With all the big stars on their roster, you would figure that TNA's ratings would be at least equal to, if not higher than, WWE's ratings. But they're not.

What it comes down to is this: Pro wrestling needs less part-time viewers (the John Cena marks) and more full-time viewers who are willing to watch a pro wrestling program in its entirety and actually learn about other wrestlers besides John Cena, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, and Triple H. If you won't watch a full wrestling program, then DON'T WATCH IT AT ALL. And if you will watch a full wrestling program, ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME.

WWE has dug itself and the whole wrestling business into a hole. It's partially WWE's fault that people won't watch wrestling unless it's John Cena on "Monday Night Raw". They have made John Cena the ONLY real star in all of wrestling, and it really is sickening. But the blame also lies with the fans themselves. The part-timers who will only watch if their "precious hero" John Cena is on the television screen. And so the business suffers.....

Melina Banned From RAW, Beth Phoenix Takes On-Air Shot

Posted by: Ben Kerin of WrestlingNewsSource.com on Aug 09 2011

Recently released WWE Diva Melina was banned from entering the arena for last night’s RAW in San Jose. Melina had been traveling with her boyfriend John Morrison to live WWE events and WWE officials were not happy with this so they shut her out. Melina reportedly stayed outside the arena meeting fans.

She tweeted: “No. I’m still fired. I had this trip planned prior. I stand by my man. I was told I couldn’t go IN the arena 2 watch. Funny.”

It is also being reported that Beth Phoenix was scripted to take a shot at Melina on RAW last night, Phoenix said: "No more booty popping, no more splits, no more stink faces"

Melina tweeted: "PS- Any Diva can try 2 do a split from here on out but what the WWE confirmed is that the SPLITS will always remind the world of me. Thank u."

She  added: "I love the statement peeps! I bet the powers that be were waiting all night 2 hear that line go on air. Hee hee. I find it very flattering!"

Brock Lesnar Talks How WWE Helped His MMA Career

Posted by: Aquiles Emmanuel Yika of WrestlingNewsSource.com on Aug 10 2011
Source: ProWrestling.net

ProWrestling.net reports that Brock Lesnar has made an interview with The Wrestling Press, about what was it like to be a WWE wrestler, and how his tenure as a WWE Champion helped his MMA career.

On life as a WWE wrestler: "These guys, they just don't have another life. When they go home, they really can’t get out of tune with their on-stage persona. There’s really no time. I think the biggest thing is there’s really no downtime for the human body to recover, and more importantly, for their mind to recover where you’re constantly on the road, and in a program where you can’t get outside to take an outside look at what’s going on — guys resort to all kinds of extracurricular activities."

He also chimes in on the backstage politics of WWE, as well as how Creative decides to push certain people: "Like I said before, working for that company, you have to be a yes-man. You couldn't write your own storyline; you were pushed by the writing team and the power of the pencil. So, as long as you were a good student, and the company thought that they could make a good money off of you, then the writer and the pencil got behind you, whereas in the UFC, I'm in control of my own destiny. It's just me and the other man in there, and when I win, it's on my own terms, and it's not because somebody behind the curtain said that 'you're winning tonight.'"

On what his WWE career has contributed for his MMA career, so far: "I'm not stupid — without the WWE, the WWE made me a household name and increased my value tenfold before I even pursued the UFC. Could I be where I am today without the WWE? Probably not. Could I be drawing the same numbers that I’m drawing? Probably not. I brought a lot of fans over, a lot of crossover fans that I brought, just from the general public and WWE fans, I believe."

not a surprise Cena wins, but really shocked that Mark Henry won the WHC title. after years of being treated like a joke. I'm kinda glad he's the new champion. All the WWE does is give Cena and Orton the titles 3 or 4 times every year while Christian and Mark Henry been with the WWE since the mid and late 90's. My guess for Mark Henry's reign, about 2-3 months and might lose it at Survivor Series losing to Big Show or Kane when they return. As for Cena, hell he'll lose it next year.

on 2nd thought, something tells me the WHC Title might not b on the line at SS if Mark Henry is captain of the Smackdown's Survivor Series match. He might lose it at TLC to either Big Show or Kane, but I rather c Big Show take the title.

HONESTLY, THE WHOLE WWE NEEDS TO BE RESTRUCTURE THE SAME DUDE FIGHTING EACH OTHER EVERY MONTH. IT'S TIME FOR SOME NEW SCRIPTS, RIVALRIES AND MORE CHALLENGES. THEY'VE PUT MORE FOCUS ON SINGLES COMPETITIONS AND SKIMMED OUT ON THE TAG TEAMS.
